Exercises in this Chapter:

1) Live and Dead Syllable Types

After you have identified the consonant class, the length of the vowel, and if there is a final consonant, you can put the syllable into one of two types, either live or dead.

2) Practice Middle Class Syllables

The next step in learning to use the right tone involves some practice reading and speaking these syllables that start with middle class consonants, and do not have a Thai tone mark. The syllables will be either mid tone or low tone.

3) Tone Rules for Middle Class

This exercise will help you learn the tone rules for syllables that start with a middle class consonant. Learn to recognize vowel length and syllable ending so you can get the correct tone.

4) Practice High Class Syllables

You've learned the middle class syllables, so now let's use the same method and study the syllables that start with high class consonants. There are just a few changes, which you will quickly understand with this application.

5) Tone Rules for High Class

This exercise will help you learn the tone rules for syllables that start with a high class consonant. Learn to recognize vowel length and syllable ending so you can get the correct tone.

6) Practice Low Class Syllables

Just one more task: Learn to read and use Thai syllables that start with a low class consonant. The tone rules are a little different, but actually quite easy now that you have learned the other classes.

7) Tone Rules for Low Class

This exercise will help you learn the tone rules for syllables that start with a low class consonant. Learn to recognize vowel length and syllable ending so you can get the correct tone.

8) Tone Rule Practice

The applications on this page will help you to learn the Thai tone rules for syllables that start with middle, high, and low consonants.
