Thai Consonant Overview

There are 44 Thai consonants, but there are only 20 initial sounds. That means that many of the consonants have exactly the same sound (when they are at the beginning of a syllable).

The exercise application on this page shows them all, in alphabetical order. Click the g icon to see the corresponding Latin consonant. Click the consonants to here their Thai names.

You may be wondering why we have 44 letters if there are only 20 sounds. Why don't we just have 20 letters? Don't worry about that for now, just focus on learning the shape of consonants, and the sounds.
